Zoonotic transmission of SARS-CoV-2
Description
There are many hypotheses about the origin of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, but most evidence supports a zoonotic, or animal, origin. The transmission of a zoonotic pathogen to humans requires the virus to be highly adaptable to human environments. This is caused by mutations in the viral genome, which may happen randomly, evolve over several generations, and there may be different intermediate hosts in the process.
