Zinc is vital for cellular metabolism. Breast cancer disrupts zinc balance, aiding disease progression. Its dual role in cancer is crucial—it’s needed for cell function but can fuel tumors. We hypothesize zinc influences mammary gland susceptibility to cancer during fetal development. Gland plasticity, environmental exposure, and epigenetic changes are key factors in how zinc impacts breast cancer.
