Whole Genome Duplication: Autopolyploidisation versus Allopolyploidisation
Description
Parental species contain two chromosomes (2n). (Left) Autopolyploidisation occurs in a species emerges by chromosome doubling of the same species. (Left) Allopolyploid species originates the same way except that it combines the entire chromosomal sets of both diploid parental species (Genome A and Genome B) in a hybridization event. In both whole genome duplication scenarios the tetraploid (4n) genome can return to diploid (2n) in a process known as rediploidization.
