Type Va secretion system in gram-negative bacteria
Description
The unfolded protein is recognized by SecB and directed to the SecYEG translocator. It is then transported to the periplasm, where chaperones maintain it. The Bam complex initiates folding and assists in inserting the beta-barrel domain into the outer membrane. The passenger protein folds and translocates through the beta-barrel. If the virulence factor is an adhesin, it becomes an anchored protein (AIDA-I); if it's a protease, the passenger is fully secreted (SPATEs).
