T-Vec Mode of Action
Description
This template was adapted from the original submission. Edits were made to enhance scientific accuracy, optimal usability and/or to meet industry-leading design standards for science communication.
T-Vec is an oncolytic virus vaccine (engineered HSV1).
The vaccine is subcutaneously injected directly into the site of the cancer. The engineered HSV-1 attacks the melanoma cells locally at the site, but also triggers the release of GM-CSF which recruits dendritic cells. Dendritic cells activate CD8+ cells, which in turn, attack melanoma cells by causing apoptosis and tumor death.
