Synthetic apomixis for hybrid tomato breeding to generate clonal seeds
Description
Hybrid vigour (heterosis) is a significant trait for plant breeding research. However, due to the meiotic recombination (sexual reproduction), the genetic materials will be reshuffled within the second generation. The clonal hybrid seeds, identical to its maternal plant, can be obtained via synthetic apomixis abolishing meiosis and fertilization.
