Streptozotocin/Nicotinamide -Induced Type 2 Diabetes in Rats
Description
1. Rats are fasted overnight for 8 hours
2. They are injected intraperitonially with freshly prepared 230 mg/kg of nicotinamide dissolved in normal saline.
3. After 15 min, the rats are again injected intraperitonially with freshly prepared 65 mg/kg streptozotocin in citrate buffer (50 mM, pH 4.5)
4. After 7 days, Check the fasting blood glucose (FBG) levels. Select all rats with FBG level of 8.3 mmol/L and above randomly into
group them.
5. Start treatment and monitor FBG weekly for 5 weeks.
