Stages of Wound Healing
Description
The figure illustrates wound healing stages. First, platelets activate at the injury site, triggering clotting and coagulation. Next, inflammatory mediators recruit macrophages and neutrophils, releasing cytokines (IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, TNF-α, MMP-8, TGF-β1, bFGF). Resident fibroblasts then migrate, proliferate, and differentiate into myofibroblasts. Finally, ECM components (hyaluronan, elastin, collagen) are produced, leading to wound healing and tissue remodelling.
