Secretin Mode of Action in a large cholangiocyte.
Description
A. Secretin binds to the G-protein coupled receptor. B. Triggers cyclic AMP production. C. cAMP stimulates phosphorylation of protein kinase A. D. Cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator activated = efflux of Cl- ions. E. Sodium/bicarbonate symport activated = influx of bicarbonate. F. Anion exchanger 2 secretes intracellular bicarbonate. G. Exocytosis of intracellular vesicles = CFTR, AE2 and aquaporin 1 which are inserted into the apical membrane. H. Water efflux.
