Role of Lipin-1 in Modified-LDL Induced Pro-Inflammatory Response
Description
This template was adapted from the original submission. Edits were made to enhance scientific accuracy, optimal usability and/or to meet industry-leading design standards for science communication.
Macrophage pro-inflammatory responses play a critical role in atherosclerotic progression. Uptake of modified low-density lipoproteins (modLDL) causes a series of lipid metabolic processes that lead to the formation of lipid-laden macrophages. Lipin-1 catalyzes the conversion of phosphatidic acid (PA) to Diacylglycerol (DAG). DAG is a key substrate for the synthesis of lipid droplets and a signaling molecule that promotes pro-inflammatory gene expression.
