Regulation of transcripts containing IRE elements by IRPs depending on cellular iron concentration
Description
High intracellular Fe, the IRP elements fix Fe-S clusters preventing binding to the IREs elements present in the 5'UTR position of the transcripts allowing their translation into protein. Binding of IRPs to IREs at the 3’UTR position triggers degradation of these mRNAs. Otherwise, by depleting the cell of Fe, the IRPs attach to their IREs elements, thus allowing the blocking of translation in the 5'UTR and the stabilization of mRNAs in the 3'UTR position.
