Quorum sensing regulated peptide production in Agr- and Agr-like systems
Description
Infections caused by the Gram-positive pathogen Staphylococcus aureus are influenced by the agr operon, which encodes a quorum sensing system regulating virulence. Additionally, peptide-based quorum sensing mechanisms are employed by other Gram-positive pathogens during infection. The potential commonality across species suggests the exciting prospect of identifying therapeutics targeting multiple pathogens.
