Pseudo Continuous Arterial Spin Labeling
Description
The Arterial Spin Labeling (ASL) for MRI brain perfusion imaging is a technique that directly allows the quantification of the brain blood flow (in ml/100g/min) without the use of any contrast agent. The pseudo-continuous ASL (PCASL) is a widely used technique in the clinical and research setting. In this illustration, the basics for PCASL are depicted. A band located in the neck will magnetically tag the blood that goes trough the carotids to be able to image perfusion in the brain.
