Predicting protein secondary structure using Circular Dichroism Spectroscopy
Description
Circular Dichroism (CD) spectroscopy is a method that analyzes the absorption of circular polarized light by asymmetric molecules. At far-UV wavelengths (180–250 nm) it serves as a useful tool to assess protein 2º structure due to the rotation of phi and psi angles within the protein backbone. These rotations are influenced by the protein conformation, resulting in characteristic spectra for structural elements.
