PGC-1a regulation of mitochondrial biogensis
Description
Adapted from Andres et al, 2015.
Figure 2: PGC-1a is considered a master regulator of mitochondrial biogenesis. Transcriptional control of PGC-1a expression is closely linked to environmental cues. PGC-1a transcription is governed by multiple factors which in turn are activated or suppressed by specific signal pathways. In addition to transcriptional control, PGC-1a activity is regulated by post transcriptional modifications. Ultimately, PGC-1a increases mitochondrial biogenesis.
