Penetrance and Expressivity
Description
Process of penetrance and expressivity is shown with the help of hypothetical example of skin color of fly. Flies in top row are all black and have gene for black too, so 100% penetrant. In middle row 70% penetrance is shown Although all flies have gene for black color but only 70% shows the associated phenotype, hence the said gene is 70 penetrant. In bottom row, variable expressivity is indicated. All flies have black gene but they show varying degree of phenotypes (wild black to mutant white)
