Pathophysiological changes in the heart during aging.
Description
Aging hearts are characterized by several pathological changes that include increase in cellular senescence and inflammation, cardiomyocyte death, mitochondrial dysfunction, and fibrosis and decrease in cell proliferation. Noncoding RNAs highlighted: green, microRNAs (miRNAs); red, long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs); blue, circular RNAs (circRNAs). ROS, reactive oxygen species; Sarrah, SCOT1-antisense RNA regulated during aging in the heart.
