NLRP3 inflammasome pathways
Description
The binding of PAMP/DAMP to its receptors triggers the priming phase of the inflammasome through activation of the NF-κB pathway, which induces the expression of NLRP3 and the precursor form of IL-1β and IL-18. A second signal is needed to induce the oligomerization of NLRP3 and its interaction with ASC, which allows the activation of CASP-1. IL-1β and IL-18 are released, and the GSDMD protein, which forms pores in the membrane that ultimately induce cell death by pyroptosis.
