Mechanisms behind the induction of trained Immunity

Description

This template was adapted from the original submission. Edits were made to enhance scientific accuracy, optimal usability and/or to meet industry-leading design standards for science communication. Trained immunity is defined as an enhanced innate immune response after an initial challenge such as vaccinations or infections. Certain microbial ligands capable of binding specific pattern recognition receptors can induce durable metabolic and epigenetic changes in innate immune cells. This increases responsiveness upon secondary stimulation and even protects against a subsequent infection.
