Mechanism of action of insulin
Description
At cellular level, insulin induced biological responses are mediated by a specific cell surface receptor (insulin receptor) with tyrosine kinase activity. Insulin activates glucose and amino acid transport, glycogen and lipid metabolism, protein synthesis and transcription of specific genes.
