M1 vs M2 macrophages
Description
The classic paradigm defines M1 macrophages as pro-inflammatory and anti-tumorigenic, contrasting with M2 macrophages, which demonstrate immunosuppressive and pro-tumorigenic characteristics. Nevertheless, this paradigm is evolving to acknowledge a spectrum of macrophage phenotypes, alongside the concept of an M1 to M2 shift within the context of tumor progression.
