μ-Opioid Receptor Agonist Mechanism
Description
The μ-Opioid Receptor binds Morphine, an opioid agonist. Following this is the activation of the G-protein and α-GTP dissociation. This subunit causes the inhibition of adenylate cyclase, leading to a decrease in cAMP levels. The down-regulation of Ca2+ channels and the up-regulation of K+ channels is also caused by the activation of the α-subunit. A charge imbalance then forms across the membrane.
