Local Estrogen Synthesis in Ovarian Cancer
Description
In ovarian tumor cells active estrogens form from androgen precursors via the aromatase pathway and from precursors estrogens via the sulfatase pathway. For the uptake of sulfated precursors special carriers are needed. AKR, aldo-keto reductase; CYP, cytochrome P450; DHEA, dehydroepiandrosterone; DHEA-S, dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate; E1-S, estrone sulfate; HSD, hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase; STS, steroid sulfatase; SULT, sulfotransferase.
