Innate and Adaptive immune response to infection
Description
A. During an initiation of inflammation components of the innate immune system (orange) immediately activate a non-specific response (0-96 hours). In vertebrates, components of the adaptive immune system (light green): a slow but highly specific response to a new antigen. Upon elimination of inflammation: differentiated effector cells die (>95%) B) Immunological memory (dark green): respond more rapidly and effectively to encountered antigens but the innate response remains constant.
