Impact of cholesterol deficiency on signaling pathways and lysosomal function in NPCD
Description
Niemann-Pick type C disease causes cholesterol deficiency in the ER and Golgi, impacting cell function. Low Golgi cholesterol affects SREBP, leading to increased cholesterol synthesis. NPCD also lowers lysosomal calcium, impairing detoxification. Overactivation of MAP kinase worsens the condition by inhibiting LXR and reducing cholesterol transport.
