Immune Response to Tissue Injury
Description
Timeline of immune cell mobilization after tissue injury. Initially, neutrophils respond within hours, followed by monocytes and macrophages over days, and T-cells over weeks. The bottom section illustrates protein adhesion on the biomaterial surface, macrophage activity, cytokine release, and the transition to fibroblast and myofibroblast activity. This leads to collagen production, angiogenesis, and the formation of tissue-resident immune cells such as dendritic cells and tissue macrophages.
