Hemolytic Disease of the Newborn (HDN)
Description
When an Rh- mother has an Rh+ fetus, the mother can become sensitized to the Rh antigens on the fetal red blood cells. Once sensitized, the mother's anti-Rh IgG antibodies can cross the placenta to a second Rh+ fetus leading to hemolytic disease of the newborn.
