Guillain barre syndrome Vs. Myasthenia gravis Pathophysiology
Description
GBS and MG are autoimmune conditions that result from immune attack. In GBS, the immune system damages the myelin sheath of the nerve by producing autoantibodies, while in the case of MG, autoantibodies block the acetylcholine receptors (AChR).
The damage of the myelin sheath or blockage of acetylcholine receptors prevents nerve signal transmission and results in muscle weakness and paralysis.
