From CARs to CHARs and CAARs
Description
Differences between a chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) and ligand-based CAR, such as CHARs or CAARs, lie in their recognition mechanism. While a CAR uses a single-chain variable fragment (ScFv) to recognize antigens, CHARs or CAARs have the antigen itself as an extracellular domain, which is recognized by a B cell receptor (BCR). CAARs or CHARs are emerging as targeted therapies for autoimmune diseases and the management of humoral rejection in kidney transplants.
