An editable high resolution scientific image depicting Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) of Retinal Pigment Epithelial Cells (RPE)

Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) of Retinal Pigment Epithelial Cells (RPE)

Description

During Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) of Retinal Pigment Epithelial Cells (RPE), the once cuboidal, polarized and non-motile RPE cells transdifferentiate into spindle-shaped mesenchymal cells that have acquired migratory and contractile properties and secrete their own extracellular matrix proteins.
