An editable high resolution scientific image depicting Epigenetic effect of butyrate

Epigenetic effect of butyrate

Description

Butyrate is a histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitor. Inhibition of HDAC activity leads to incresed acetylation of histones and causes histone hyperacetylation. Histone tail acetylation increases the accessibility of a gene to the transcriptional machinery by causing the DNA to loosely associate with the histone proteins. Histone deacetylation causes histone tails to become highly charged and cause DNA to tightly bind to histones, so it becomes less accessible for transcription.
