Effect of 1-methylcyclopropene on the respiratory rate of banana (Musa acuminata AAA)

Description

Ethylene, synthesized in bananas from methionine, triggers ripening via ACC production. In the signaling pathway, RAN1 gives copper to the receptors MaESR1/MaESR3, reducing MaCTR1 activity. This leads to MaEIN2-C translocating to the nucleus, boosting MaEIN3/MaEIL1 transcriptional activity. Increased gene expression drives ripening. 1-MCP, an ethylene blocker, binds to receptors, inhibiting the cascade, reducing sugar content, enzyme activity, gene expression, slowing ripening and respiration.
