The SIM technique, a novel technology that uses live sperm in microgels, allows for rapid and consistent study of sperm morphology under the microscope. It has been utilized in D. melanogaster to preserve the full sperm morphology while also permitting observation of the DNA outline, flagellum, and certain morphological alterations
