Critical Period
Description
Overview of the critical periods of plasticity or ease of learning a new skill throughout life. Primary senses like vision, hearing, and touch start developing right after birth. However, during infancy, the critical period for primary senses closes and these skills can no longer be acquired. Language and higher cognition develop later in life and although the ease of learning these skills peaks early in life, the critical period never closes entirely.
