CRISPR-Cas9 Gene Editing in Trypanosoma cruzi
Description
This template was adapted from the original submission. Edits were made to enhance scientific accuracy, optimal usability and/or to meet industry-leading design standards for science communication.
This figure briefly describes one of the CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing methods for rapid generation of knock out populations in Trypanosoma cruzi. In many organisms, double-strand breaks repair can be carried out by two different processes: 1) homology driven repair (HDR) or 2) non-homologous end joining repair (NHEJ). In the case of trypanosomatids, they do not have NHEJ, but have another repair mechanism known as Microhomology-mediated end joining (MMEJ) that generally introduces a deletion.
