Coral Tissue Anatomy
Description
This template highlights the anatomy of a partial hermatypic coral polyp, consists surface and basal body walls, along with the gastrovascular cavity. The surface body wall consists of the oral epidermis with defensive cnidocytes, mesoglea, and gastrodermis containing symbiotic dinoflagellates for energy production. The basal body wall includes the aboral gastrodermis, another mesoglea layer, and the calicodermis, which secretes calcium carbonate to form coral's skeleton.
