Changes in the metabolism of cancer patients
Description
Cancer can alter human metabolism in several ways. Resting Energy Expenditure (REE) may increase due to inflammation or treatment toxicity, or decrease due to changes in body composition. Activity Energy Expenditure (AEE) typically decreases as patients become less active. The Thermic Effect of Food (TEF) may also decrease as patients eat less due to the disease and treatment.
