CD40 Ligand Deficiency
Description
This template was adapted from the original submission. Edits were made to enhance scientific accuracy, optimal usability and/or to meet industry-leading design standards for science communication.
The interaction of CD40 and CD40L on B and T cells, respectively, is crucial for B cell immunoglobulin class switching. Upon successful signaling, B cells proliferate and undergo class switching to either IgG, IgA, IgE, IgD, or IgM, depending on the antigen. However, in patients with CD40L deficiency, B cells cannot undergo class switching, leading to an excessive amount of IgM production (hyper IgM syndrome).
