Candida albicans invasion in systemic infection
Description
Candida albicans tissue invasion involves several stages when interacting with a stylized epithelial cell surface: initial attachment to the epithelium, penetration of the epithelial layers by hyphae, dissemination through blood vessels, including the penetration of hyphae and seeding of yeast cells into the bloodstream, and ultimately, colonization and penetration of endothelial cells during disseminated disease.
