Cancer development and progression
Description
The accumulation of genetic and epigenetic mutations in the cellular genome triggers an alteration of protein expression, including activation of oncogenes and inactivation of tumor suppressor genes, leading a lack of control in the cell cycle and an uncontrolled proliferation as well as apoptosis evasion. The disease progression continues when exists a failure in the immune system and a tumor forms. Vascularization, invasion of adjacent tissues and metastasis then occur.
