Biological cycle of the Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus tick
Description
The R. microplus tick completes its life cycle by going through four stages: egg, larva, nymph, and adult. Newly hatched larvae actively seek out a bovine host, to which they attach and feed on its blood for several days. After molting, they develop into nymphs, which repeat the feeding and molting process until they finally reach the adult stage. Adult, engorged females (telogenous) mate and lay eggs, initiating a new cycle.
