Angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) degradation of Substance P (SP)
Description
Angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) has two cleave pathways for the peptide Substance P (SP). Along one arm, the first cleavage generates SP 1-8 and the tripeptide Gly-Leu-Met while the second cleavage generates the dipeptides Arg-Pro, Lys-Pro, Gln-Gln, and Phe-Phe and the tripeptide Gly-Leu-Met. The second arm first generates SP 1-9 and the dipeptide Leu-Met while the second cleavage generates SP 1-5 and the dipeptides Gln-Phe, Phe-Gly, and Leu-Met.
