ABO Blood Groups
Description
The ABO blood group Antigens are oligosaccharides present on red blood cells and other cells throughout the body. The precursor sugar receives a fucose from the H gene to make the O antigen. People who have the A transferase enzyme have GalNAc added to the O antigen to make the A antigen while people who have the B transferase enzyme have galactose added to the O antigen to make the B antigen.
