Supercentenarians
Description
This template was adapted from the original submission. Edits were made to enhance scientific accuracy, optimal usability and/or to meet industry-leading design standards for science communication.
Two key cell types are important for our immune system to fight infection: helpers that release molecules to help regulate the immune response, and killers that release toxic molecules to destroy infected cells. Supercentenarians, rare people who reach the age of 110 years while staying incredibly healthy, have an abundance of a special “super” immune cells: helpers that have developed the ability to be killers as well, which may give supercentenarians the ability to stay healthy.
