Exploring Potential Renal Effects of Dipeptidyl-Peptidase-4 Inhibitors (DPP-4is)
Description
Dipeptidyl-peptidase-4 inhibitors (DPP-4is) are non-insulin glucose-lowering agents, belonging to the incretin family, able to improve glycaemic control with a favorable safety profile. They are associated with a low risk of hypoglycemia, no weight gain, and good tolerability in patients with chronic kidney disease. Some experimental and clinical studies suggest that DPP-4is may exert significant pleiotropic effects, in particular on kidneys, but data from clinical trials are still controversial.
