Our Vision for AI

We see AI as a transformational tool to speed up scientific discovery. By enhancing the design and creation of scientific figures, AI can help improve collaboration, streamline the communication process, and ultimately accelerate the understanding of complex concepts. The result? Scientists get back billions of hours to focus on disease-curing research and innovation.

Our AI roadmap is designed to address the following pain points for scientists:

• Figure creation is time consuming: Great figures can help effectively tell your scientific story and invite others to contribute ideas, but creating scientific figures can be tedious and complex. With BioRender AI, we aim to automate much of this process, freeing scientists to focus on their research.
• Design and storytelling is a learned skill: We've obsessed over scientific storytelling for 100s of years of our collective experience as science communicators. Leveraging AI, we aim to make design and visual storytelling accessible to everyone.
• Getting the right level of detail is hard: Scientists often have to reformat the same content for different audiences and platforms. AI can help adapt visuals for presentations, posters, or leadership meetings effortlessly.

When you upload or create content in BioRender, it’s important that you either own the copyright to or have the proper licenses to use that content. This ensures that any figures, images, or designs you create comply with all applicable legal requirements.

BioRender’s AI tools are designed and vetted by scientists to help streamline figure creation and make your work easier. We continue to enhance these tools to deliver reliable and usable results, but please understand that AI-generated content might not always be 100% accurate to scientific standards or perfectly suited to your specific needs. That’s why we recommend carefully reviewing any figures or visuals generated by AI before you use them, especially in formal or research settings.

Any content you create using our AI tools is owned by you, just like any other content you create in BioRender (with the exception of BioRender’s pre-existing icons or templates). We do not claim ownership over any of your uploaded or created content. Your content remains yours.

Your Data: Security, Privacy, and Control

At BioRender, we understand that trust is paramount when using AI. Our process is designed to protect your privacy and data.

Sources of data used to train our AI models:

• BioRender's proprietary content library: Includes scientifically accurate icons, templates, and visuals created by BioRender's team of scientists and designers.
• Community gallery contributions: Content submitted by users to BioRender's public Community Gallery, which is shared with explicit permission from the contributors.
• Anonymized usage data: De-identified and aggregated usage patterns from user interactions with the platform, observed across a minimum threshold of users and organizations to ensure privacy. We do not use usage data derived from isolated or individual user interactions. No data used is traceable back to specific individuals or organizations. 

We do not use user-uploaded or created Customer content (e.g. user-created files, uploads) to train our models without your knowledge.

Our approach to security:  

Your content is protected with the same security and privacy standards as all data in our systems.  Our AI models are secured through encryption, authentication controls, and continuous vulnerability monitoring, with regular audits to ensure compliance with industry standards.  We hold third-party AI providers to these same standards..
